We the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania call for a complete moratorium of all natural gas and oil drilling activities, including exploration, until a time when the processes involved do not affect the environment (including land, air and water) and the health of the population in any negative manner what so ever.

    • It breaks my heart what is happening. Just the other day, a tanker truck servicing a drill on top of the mountain near my parents home went off the mountain road in the snow and down an embankment and into a mountain stream. Who in their right mind ever thought this was a good idea was obviously not in their right mind.

    • A moratorium should be placed on gas-drilling until we are certain that the wells protect us from frack water, that spills can be prevented and that we have adequate frack water disposal facilities. If there is even a minute risk to our drinking water--the moratorium should be indefinite. We cannot survive without clean drinking water. It is the source of life.

    • Pennsylvania continues to suffer from decades of irresponsible extraction of coal throughout our great Commonwealth. For this very reason, on May 18, 1971, Pennsylvania voters by a four-to-one margin ratified what is now Article I, Section 27 of our state constitution - the Environmental Rights Amendment which states: "The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and asthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people." As elected officials, you have the duty to preserve these RIGHTs of present and future Pennsylvanians as guaranteed by our Constitution. Should you fail the people of the Commonwealth by turning a blind eye, the voters will elect those who will.
