Please say YES to funding the conversion of Ransoms Pavilion to workshop and classroom for use by the Triangle Community Garden, Hitchin.

We, the undersigned, urge the funding organisation WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental) to approve and fund the conversion of the north part of Ransoms Pavilion, Ransoms Recreation Ground, off Grove Road, Hitchin, for use by the Triangle Community Garden (www.trianglegarden.org).

The conversion will provide a carpentry workshop, a small classroom/meeting space, kitchen facilities, tools storage and toilets. It is being supported and part-funded by North Herts District Council.

We believe the conversion will benefit the local community for the following reasons:

The new workshop will provide a place where adults with learning difficulties can learn new skills and produce garden craft items for sale
The workshop will provide opportunities to run woodwork sessions at evenings and weekends open to all in the community eg parent and child sessions, woodwork for wildlife, etc
The pavilion conversion will provide a wet weather activity space for people working in the community garden
It will also provide a suitable place for horticultural theory work, which will benefit the adults with learning difficulties who attend gardening sessions at the Triangle Garden.
The new classroom/meeting space will benefit local groups and allow the garden to host school visits (the Garden is within walking distance of many local primary schools)
Small group activities or workshops can be held in the conversion
Kitchen facilities will be provided benefitting all who use the building
Toilet facilities will be refurbished and can be made available to any park events held at Ransoms Rec. eg the Triangle Festival
Disabled access will be possible throughout
The north part of the pavilion is no longer used for sports changing, but is currently a tool store for the Triangle Garden (tool storage will be more efficiently accommodated in the new conversion) the conversion will not lead to a loss of useful changing facilities
Regular activity and use of the Pavilion will reduce the likelihood of vandalism and undesirable activities taking place.
Refurbishment of the Pavilion will change its perception in the immediate community from a useless eyesore to a positive, attractive, well-kept and well-used building.

So, please WREN, say yes to funding the Ransoms Pavilion conversion!

    • This would bring a currently underused facility into productive use which will benefit a wide range of the local community as well as providing facilities for adults with support needs. The space will also broaden the range of horticultural and horticultural therapy activities at the Triangle Garden's two sites at Ransom's Rec.

    • I think this is a superb proposal. It will be a great resource for all the people who use hte park and pass through it on the daily commute by foot and cycle to the station. I am an allotmenteer next to the park and I would definitely attend courses/workshops there. I would also be interested in offering natural plant dyeing workshops tothe local community.
