The past few years have witnessed the collapse one lie by the utterly shameless Government of Manmohan Singh followed by another lie.
First, it was the assurance that draft of the negotiated safeguards agreement will be provided to the UPA-Left committee which was not done.
Then we saw the non-sensical explanation that the IAEA board demanded the text to be priveleged, which the IAEA itself has denied.
There was even a story doing the rounds about the UPA minister Pranab Mukherjee being concerned about nuclear safety inorder to keep a public document private!

But what is completely nerve-wracking is the governments action in proceeding to the IAEA when it has not proven its majority after the withdrawal of support to the UPA government by the Left parties - this too comes after a straight faced lie by the government that they will approach the IAEA only after they prove their majority on the floor of the house. Honorable members, it is clear Mr. Manmohan Singh and his cohorts in the Congress express complete callousness toward the plight of the common man, only to be matched by their sheer hatred of democratic functioning and love for big money.

Despite all the misrepresentation among many sections of the corporate media - perceivably on account of a tiny middle-class elite irrationally supporting US imperialism - we, the people of India, understand:

1) The Left parties have consistently and creditably opposed the Nuclear deal on account of the serious American interference in foreign policy choices of India that would be a direct consequence of this deal. Given that the US is a imperialist aggressor, this is completely against our popular ethos and the sovereign nature of the Union of India.

2) We note with concern the increased nuclear proliferation that would follow directly from the "military-civilian" seperation plan envisaged in the nuclear deal, essentially magnifying many times the threat of Nuclear annihilation in the Indian subcontinent.

3) We also note that most of the pressing problems facing our economy - like the suicide of thousands of our farmers on account of Agrarian distress and the excruciating rise in prices of essential commodities have not received any fundamental solutions from the UPA government, their lipservice to democracy notwithstanding.

4) We also should note that the UPA government by the above misgovernance has provided every opportunity to communal forces to gain political ground, their empty rhetoric against the deal notwithstanding.

On account of the above facts, we demand that in the supreme interest of the ordinary Indian, the one who voted you to represent them to:

- Reject any extra-parliamentary tactics that Mr. Manmohan and his political managers may use to seek your support to survive the July 22 trust vote.

- Vote against the UPA government in light of their complete misgovernance and sellout of our national interest to US imperialism and for rejecting our time-honored commitment to nuclear disarmament in favor of increased nuclear power projection and posturing.

    • I. The deal severely undermines the prospects of global nuclear disarmament by "legitimising" India's nuclear status and, in the process, the possession of nuclear weapons by the existing nuclear weapon states both "recognised" and "unrecognised" - and also the aspirations of other actual and potential aspirants. IA. It will further intensify the arms race between India and Pakistan both nuclear and conventional. Brusque rejection of Pakistans plea for a similar deal would only further inflame its passions and thereby turn South Asia all the more dangerous. II. This deal is also an utterly reprehensible move to bring India closer into the US orbit as a regional ally to facilitate the execution of its global imperial ambitions. III. Furthermore, the consequent shift in focus in favour of highly expensive, hazardous and potentially catastrophic nuclear power will significantly distort India's energy options at the cost of efforts to develop environmentally benign and renewable sources of energy.
