Itunes should include liner notes for music that can be down loaded through its application. This would use original notes as well as contributing personnel and production credits. With hyperlinks artist's entire body of work and associations can be explored
One of legendary country boy blues guitarist Duane Allman's most iconic riffs can be found on New York City native Laura Nyro's "Beads of Sweat"? That song shared half the title of the songwriter's 3rd album, "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat" which was recorded during the waning days of the sixties "summer(s) of love" in Muscle Shoals, Alabama - quite a leap for city slicktress Nyro but merely a relative roll in the hay for the Brother.
An essential part of musical history today runs the risk becoming obsolete as it fails to accompany the transistion from analog to digital audiology - the liner note. These now obcure notes once lent a font of inferential verisimilitude to what sometimes may have been a flat listiening experience. Their inclusion let the listener ponder the influence comtemporaneous events and people may have had in the creative process. Even as today's live musicians are replaced by machines, the inclusion of the latter's programmers could prove to be just as valuable in the future.
Wikipedia has laid out a model template, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_and_the_Beads_of_Sweat but this cannot be transfered to the itunes site, to say nothing about being uploaded to an ipod.
The inclusion of liner notes to the itunes application could prove to be a profitable boon to Apple, Inc.; who knows how many potential sales could be triggered by a cross-referential exploration through the application's vast catalogue.
