In the past year alone three murders and a shooting have occurred at the Parade Ground near the entrance off Crooke Avenue. This is mere feet from the Dillon Stewart Playground, named for the NYPD officer killed in the line of duty. In light of this appalling violence, we the undersigned strongly advocate for the following redress, namely that:
В Cameras sufficient to surveil the full walkway off Crooke Ave. as well as other heavily trafficked areas of the park be installed
В Signs reading вUnder NYPD Surveillanceв be prominently displayed
В NYPD patrols of the Parade Ground be increased
В Lighting be reassessed and improved
While the recent crimes at the Parade Ground may not be linked, it has become abundantly clear that criminals see the Parade Ground as a place where murder and assault can be committed. We wish to send a message that this behavior will no longer be tolerated.
We will not stop until the Parade Ground is as safe as it can be. As of this moment it is not, and we believe strongly that the above remedies will help make the Parade Ground a place where families can once again bring their children without fear.

- Please make every effort to make the parade grounds safer. Not only do the grounds serve a great purpose for the community but to have a great resource for the city become associated with murder and violence is a major travesty. Please do what ever it takes to change not only the safety of the area but help keep this area a key resource in the community.

- We will not be silenced anymore by bogus statistics about crime being down in the area. One of the murders and the shooting happened in broad daylight with hundreds of children witness to and at risk from that violence. Nobody would talk, because everyone was afraid. I have walked past with my baby in my arms when shots were fired, and I walk my dog each night exactly where this latest murder occurred. We are all afraid, except for the perpetrators who know they can commit acts of deadly violence with impunity there. PUT UP THE CAMERAS.

- Our family lives one block from the Parade Ground and is there on a daily basis. We'd love to see the Parade Ground be a safer, better maintained public space.
