We, citizens of the state of Nevada, petition our legislators to write a law whereby a hospital must release a human placenta to the mother or the mother's designee after determining it to be non-infectious.

    • A placenta is a natural part of childbirth. A mother grows it for her baby which provides health and nutrients to the baby. There is no reason why it should be considered waste after childbirth. It belongs to mother and baby!

    • When a mother delivers a placenta, that placenta therefore belongs to her, not the hospital. It should be released to her as is her right! After all, the baby is released to the mother, why not the placenta, too?

    • Hospitals that deny a placenta for moral reasons should be avoided. I don't need a hospital nurse deciding if I may or may not take MY placenta with me when I leave. It's my busniess, NOT the hospitals' or the staff. .

    • A woman's placenta is of her own body and belongs to her. No person or entity should have the authority to dictate what a mother can or cannot do with her placenta. It is imperative that the rights of the mother be protected to allow her to make a choice in what shall become of her placenta.

    • It is a woman's right to be given her placenta, and so for that to be always enforced, it needs to be a law.
