This petition calls for the visitation of President Barack Obama to the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University. President Obama was initially scheduled to visit Rutgers University on Thursday, July 16th, 2009, and speak at a rally supporting Governor Jon Corzine. Over 50,000 individuals signed up for the free tickets to the rally, a large portion of those individuals being students and/or members of the Rutgers community who would not have been able to see the President speak in any other circumstances. Governor Corzine's campaign managers underestimated the demand for tickets for the rally, and ultimately the rally was moved to the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

Of the over 50,000 people who signed up to attend the rally at Rutgers, only 17,000 will be allowed to attend at the PNC Bank Arts Center. The President's trip to Rutgers was more than a part of Governor Corzine's campaign; to the Rutgers community, the visit symbolized hope and a deep sense of pride.

We, the undersigned, wish for President Barack Obama to visit Rutgers University. We hope for a visit to allow those students and community members who obtained tickets for the initial rally but were unable to attend the one in Holmdel to be given the opportunity to hear the President speak at Rutgers. We wish to reinstate the overwhelming sense of pride the Rutgers community felt at having President Barack Obama visit our campus.

    • Rutgers people were overwhelmingly for you last November. Why not return the favor?
