We believe that our students deserve the information necessary to be successful in their lives. Our educational system is currently not required to provide the information about the credit system, managing personal finances, and financing post-secondary education that our children really need.
We need a required course for all high school graduates covering the credit system and how to manage personal finances. This course should cover how credit ratings are determined and what the students can do to protect themselves from credit issues. It should teach the students to handle their personal finances from paying bills and taxes to investments and saving for retirement. Regardless of what the students decide to do with their lives after they graduate this class will help them avoid credit problems, over-extending themselves, and even possible bankruptcy. This should be a mandatory class for all high school seniors.
A complimentary class for high school seniors should be offered that teaches students how to plan and prepare for post-secondary education. All schools do not have guidance departments that relay this information to every student interested in furthering their education. Many of the parents of these students may not be aware of the resources available to help their children. How many of our children are missing out on a better life because they dont know that there are people out there to help them? A simple course that covers the college or trade school application and financial aid process would be invaluable to many of the children who thought that they would never be able to afford more education.
As citizens of this great country it is our duty to ask you, our elected officials, to use your office to make the changes necessary to ensure that future generations are not hindered by an ignorance of the world that we have created for them. A world that, each of us hopes, is a slightly better place for our children. A hope that you can help make a reality.
