Appeal to Discontinue Child Endangerment and Character Assassination on GH

We are appealing to those in charge of General Hospital and Daytime Television at ABC-Disney to stop the continued practice of pairing women who endanger children with the top male characters and thereby creating a sense of acceptance for this behavior. The mainstreaming of cruelty to children is reprehensible and thinking that, as fans, we would accept that two of the leading males on the show would simply accept and forgive the women who committed these crimes is rude and insolent.
Over half of the television viewing audience is female and many of us that watch Daytime Television are within the age range of 18-49. Not only are we identified as the key demographic but we are also women who are in college, the workforce, single, married and/or mothers. As such, we find it unacceptable that General Hospital continually uses the endangerment or death of a child as a catalyst for a storyline. Likewise, it is maddening when women who kidnap children, watch children get kidnapped, knowingly put them in danger, and/or hide their contribution in a child's death or permanent mental or physical disability are paired with the strongest male characters on the show, specifically and currently Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos. As long time fans of the show, we will never accept that characters such as these would become involved with women who would purposely endanger and knowingly hide their involvement in the endangerment of a child for any reason. While we understand that it is a Soap Opera and characters are reinvented or given opportunities to reform, there are certain behaviors that can not be whitewashed or simply forgiven.
There are also characters that are steadfastly consistent in their behaviors and beliefs. Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos are two such characters. They have always stood for protecting family and children almost at all costs. To have either of these characters become involved with women such as Samantha McCall and Claudia Zacchara who imperiled their children is ridiculous and reprehensible.
By signing this petition, we respectfully ask those in charge of General Hospital, as well as ABC Daytime Television, to stop promoting storylines that encourage the perception that cruelty to children is in any way without lasting consequences and is in any way accepted by the parent of the child who was put in jeopardy.

- Brian Fons is a danger to the development/growth of family values. As ABC is promoted as a family station, this should not be just by words, but also in the quality and content of the programs shown on the network. Network staff , more so senior executives should be held to high conduct and infraction should certainly be dealt with appropriately. Change should start today, with responsible staffing and programming.

- The redemption of these two characters must stop. No way should they be around the men that they have harmed their children. Claudia Zaccara arrived in PC as a vile human being thinking only of herself, scribe her being that evil person who shouldn't be around any children PERIOD. As the character of Sam, words cannot even begin to express my discontent with her being around Jason willingly knowing that she place his child in danger on more thatn 1 ocassion. She needs to be far, far away from Jake and stop trying to make us or should I say train us (Mr. Frons words I believe) into accepting that fans would get on board with a romance between the Jason and Sam.

- As a mother I find it reprehensible that anyone would or could forgive a person who has harmed their child. This type of writing has the potential to keep women and children in abusive relationships.

- These two are the most vile characters on GH, and the have them continuously shoved front and center is a disgrace. GH/ABC/Disney should be ashamed of themselves for trying to turn characters who have committed vile acts against children into hero's. It is beyond reprehensable to have your two leading male characters sharing the same air space as these women who harmed their children. The character of Jason Morgan is being made to look like a fool, he is well aware what Sam has done to his child. How dare GH try ruin the character of Jason by trying to prop the character of Sam, who should have been killed off years ago. The whole thing is completely digusting.

- I grew up watching GH because it was my mother's soap. Of course, what wasn't to love? Unfortunately, because this show is determined to put women of a less-than-desirable-character as headliners (and pair them with the very men whose children they've wronged) I cannot share my once-beloved favorite sudser with my own daughters...or my sons either, for that matter. If you want me to buy the mob-hitman with the heart of gold, then pair him with a woman worthy of backing it up. Give me something soapy, not trashy!

- General Hospital has discintegrated into a Mobfest full of violence & abuse. Well beloved characters/actors have been "killed off" and/or fired & replaced with sub-standard actors/characters that do nothing to enhance or entertain the current storylines. In days gone past, a character such as Sam McCall was a "pit-stop" filler character, who wreaked their havoc & was known to have their days "numbered" & yet she is now being portrayed as the Heroine of the piece. Unacceptable & quite boring, just like GH has become. The dysfunction of the Quartermaines is never seen; strong lead characters are suddenly compromising their once vaunted ideals. Yes we are fans of a "soap opera", but we are neither sheep nor stupid. We will not sit idly by whilst a show we helped promote continues to go against every principle. I for one, will not allow my child to watch a show that promotes & rewards, child endangerment. I will simply not have my child think that such behaviour is acceptable or redeemable "because it's on TV".
