Whereas the Catholic Church in America has been rocked with the revelation of outrageous sex crimes against children and youth С some of which include the trafficking of children within our country and outside of it; and

Whereas thousands of Catholic priests have abused tens of thousands of children and youth as well as exploited and raped adult women and men; and

Whereas this tragedy was not the result of one incompetent bishop, but rather the result of the determined and systematic efforts by many, if not most bishops, to cover up sex crimes by their priests С and even by themselves; and

Whereas the Catholic Church has not reformed itself but continues to systematically thwart the human rights of sexual abuse survivors to gain justice for sex crimes committed against them; and

Whereas while some local prosecutors have made efforts to bring Catholic bishops to justice and accountability, local efforts will not and can not deal with the enormity of this problem of corruption on a national level,

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that the undersigned demand the Federal Government of the United States of America open a RICO investigation of the Catholic Church in the United State

    • No other organization in this country would be allowed to function hiding behind the 'cloak' of separation of church and state and the immunity laws on statute of limitations regarding sexual abuse of children. it is time to put a stop to their illegal immunity for the horrors they are responsible for.

    • We completely suppport RICO. No man should be above our laws! Protect children, protect families, protect citizens! Punish the pedophiles and those who protected the pedophiles. There should be no special laws to soften the nature or punishment of their crimes against humanity.

    • Pederasty, rape and obstruction of justice are all criminal offenses. Any institution that continues such activity must be held accountable to victims and society as a whole.

    • I was physically and mentally abused by nuns at St. Colman's Home as a young teen, who were supposed to help me heal from severe physical and sexual abuse. Because of their abuse I am struggling still with a severe eating disorder. I am also currently diagnosed with PTSD, depression and a dissociative disorder. The Catholic Church needs to be held accountable for the acts of physical, sexual, emotional abuse as well as neglect that they have caused on millions of children and adult survivors who have been in their care. This needs to end NOW.

    • Dignitaries, you owe it to these undersigned US citizens to at least look into the US Roman Catholic Church's history of sexual misconduct, as it pertains not only to what happend to whom by whomever, but who concealed what when. Please, make the right decision - start the investigation.

    • I am an adult survivor of clergy sexual abuse. I have a disabled child fathered by a Franciscan priest. The abuse by Catholic clergy destroyed my life and nearly ended it via suicide. This abuse of children and vulnerable adults needs to end. The childen fathered by clergy are secondary victims of abuse. Please assist us all.

    • I sincerely believe the Roman Catholic Church is incapable of reforming itself. RICO is needed to protect our children and we victims are demanding accountibility.

    • As a former prosecuting attorney, there is no doubt in my mind that there have been RICO violations by the Catholic Church. An investigation is mandatory.

    • I am a survivor of sexual abuse by a roman catholic priest (caps omitted INTENTIONALLY) in the diocese of Joliet, IL. This diocese has set a wonderful example for the rest of the dioceses on how to organize and maintain a cover-up, and has perfected the ability to transfer "troubled" priests to other churches without raising suspicion from the parishioners. Every effort to make changes within the diocese has been met with doubletalk and denial of any wrongdoing. I can't imagine any child having to go through what I suffered (and still deal with at the age of 34). One of the victims of my perp committed suicide at 16 years old because of the abuse inflicted upon him. For the sake of EVERY CHILD in the roman catholic church, this investigation MUST BE CONDUCTED!

    • If you have the courage to review all the evidence, from across the world, of the crimes perpetrated against the innocent and unsuspecting, and resulting cover-up by church bureaucracy, you would be forced to agree that a RICO prosecution is warranted. The questions is, Do you have the courage to act on your convictions despite the potential political consequences?

    • This is a very serious problem not just for Catholic children but for all children. Too many times criminals have hid behind a collar (of any denomination) and habits. The Federal Gov't Judicial resources are needed urgently to protect children here and abroard when molesters and rapists are shuffled about. Thank you.
