We, the undersigned, are citizens strongly opposed to the offensive and racist conduct exhibited by the Delta Sigma Phi and Beta Theta Pi fraternities at Halloween parties on Oct. 25 and 27.

The pictures do not lie! They are insulting images that give an indication of the character of the members of these fraternal organizations and provided a scope as to the acceptable climate on Auburn Universitys campus in regards to racist discrimination and harassment.

We believe that in the year 2001,there is no excuse or acceptable explanation for the apprearance of these students in Ku Klux Klan robes, Omega Psi Phi paraphernalia, or FUBU attire; all while wearing blackface. It is terribly wrong and completely contrary to both the letter and spirit of our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

We urge you, Auburn University representatives, to remove these chapters from your campus, and immediately implement racial sensivity courses for all Auburn University students, faculty and staff, to insure that such intolerance and ignorance is not allowed to surface again.

    • It's shameful that these type of activities are still going on in America. As an African-American, I am offended, and I think that this organization should be suspended indefinitely.

    • I think this is very ugly and reflects on the moral of the university. nothing about this is funny and me being a African American Male i am very disappointed in this. This is just a lesson to every one RASCISM still exists and no matter how often they tell you it doesn't we have proof it does. I am very angry and upset if this goes unpunished and overlooked there is a problem. I cant help but wonder what would happen if a few african american students pulled the same stunt the same way..would they still be allowed to attend school....i think not.....Someone needs to apologize and i am going to write a letter to the president of the united states about this incident yours trully Marvin Cayce I AM PROUD TO BE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN!!!!! we'll hear more about this on cnn......peace

    • I feel very hurt and offended by what happened at those Halloween parties. The members say they could do nothing about it, but they are wrong. They didn't do as much as they could have (which is to not stand for such conduct and reprimand any member who exhibits such foolishness.) However, they just let it go like it was a joke. It is time to stand up for what we believe in, even if it means losing a friend.

    • There should also be a public apology from the university As well as the students that are pictured. Boycotting the sport games that Auburn participates in could open up a few eyes as well. Funn y this is not!!

    • I am outraged. As an African American woman in a sorority, I cannot fathom what they ever joined a fraternity for. What do they stand for? How dare they mock black Greek Lettered Organization in such a demeaning way. They should all be suspended.

    • I never knew such ignorance could exist on a college campus in this country. It makes me wonder what kind of education Auburn University is providing for it's students.

    • I hope that they find it in their hearts to do something about this because those acts represent Delta Sigma Phi and Beta Theta Pi as a whole, including the memebers of other descents.
