Demanding Stringent Actions to Stop Racially Motivated Attacks on the Indian Students in Australia

Dear Hon. Kim Beazley AC,

We the undersigned are deeply concerned with the racially motivated attacks on Indians in Australia. It is a fact that Indians have long been overrepresented as the victims of crime in Australia. The recent, but delayed, acceptance of the existence of a racist element in those incidents by the Foreign Minister Stephen Smith and the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd depicts the precarious situation faced by Indian students over the last couple years. While an end to this denialism is a positive step forward, strong and immediate steps should be mandated to eliminate the furtherance of the injustice. Notwithstanding the assurance of action from the Australian authorities to the media and their Indian counterparts, the incessancy of such incidents questions the seriousness of the efforts.

The continuation of these human rights violations will not only exact a toll on the lives of innocent Indian people, most of whom are students, but will also leave a long lasting negative impression in the hearts and minds of the Indian community worldwide. We, the friends and members of the Indian community in the United States of America, stand against this racism. We demand immediate stringent steps to stop the racially motivated attacks on the Indian students in Australia.

    • A country cannot prosper without knowledge and knowledgeable people outside its own. If you think your country does not want immigrants, then stop the policy of immigration. Racialism shows mean-mindedness of your people. You must take this seriously petition seriously. If Indians decide to blacklist your country for immigration, I know that Australia does not have enough man-power to support its growth after 25 years. Think over it.
