This petition is being used to show that a BMX track in the HRM would be well used, well supported and well appreciated. BMX racing can help to keep youth out of trouble, keep them fit, and allow them to excel at something they take deep interest in. BMX racing is a family sport, both in the support role, and even in the participation role! It requires a very minimal financial investment, and many people already have a suitable bike now at home! As well, there is never a shortage of volunteers for anything from cleaning up, to helping organize events. Basically, it is a self sustaining sport, once it gets up and rolling. And the economic gain in the community is another thing to consider. Local bicycle shops can provide both bikes and the protective safety equipment. People will be eating at local food establishments and shopping before and after the event while in the area. Furthermore, all those traveling from out of town will require a place to stay, and places to seek entertainment while visiting our bustling city.
So, it is our sincerest hope that all those in a position to consider building a facility for us, our friends, our family and all our aspiring athletes, please help us to make this happen. We can have fun for many years, have many good memories, bring in a great deal of visitors, and who knows? Maybe even send some locals to the next Olympics?

    • This is a popular sport in all other provinces in Canada. It should be built. It is a popular sport that is now even in the olympics.

    • A park in this area of the province would act as a hub for developing racers in this province. Giving more riders the opportunity to improve their riding and compete at higher levels and also introducing new people to the sport. With the introduction of bmx racing into the olympics there is more interest than ever. More active people in our population can only lead to improved health and well being for society.

    • I think we could get a bigger BMX race scene around here if we actually had a good functional track.

    • This has been a long time coming, and I know Charlottetown is in the same boat. As far as I know, they have agreed to build a track, but are searching for potential sites.
