On November 29th 2009, Irish Rail without any public consultation radically changed the suburban rail timetable in Dublin. Despite Irish Rail denials this has reduced peak hour DART services by up to 33\%, leading to dangerous levels of overcrowding.

Northern line passengers must endure longer journeys as those trains must make extra stops to make up for the lack of DART services. This new timetable has led to significant delays as no sense is applied to the order of trains.

Despite over 1 billion euro in investment, massive fare hikes and parking charges, all claimed to fund an 'improved' service, the service is getting worse not better. It blatantly clear that Irish Rail management have failed utterly in their responsibility to meet the needs of the public.

We the petitioners demand

1. Immediate restoration of the 2008/9 rail timetable at peak hours
2. A 4 week period of public consultation to develop a new passenger friendly timetable, to resolve not only these issues but many others.

    • I've been getting the commuter train at 17:55 from Pearse station in the evening which now to my horror is serving Portmarnock and Malahide Stations despite their being a malahide dart 5 minutes before this train. What is the logic of this!! my train journey alone is taking an hour despite Irish rail stating that it should pull into Balbriggan at 18:46. The only station between Connolly and Donabate the commuter train should be stopping at is Howth Junction, if at all, isn't that the purpose of a junction. Otherwise Portmarnock and Malahide have a dart service. If Irish rail organised the timetables better people who use the northern line who work along the dart line can get off at Howth Junction and catch a dart travelling from either Malahide or Howth. Its whats done in other countries.

    • Cyncial and contemptable actions by Irish Rail in changing the Northern timetable at a time when they're supposedly trying to make it up to customers for the 'inconvenience' (read better service) of the last few months. Why are Northern Commuters being punished with longers journeys to serve commuters already well served by DART. Instead of setting the bar higher to aim for better service and standards, Irish Rail instead lowers the bar to a slower service with less efficiency that it can't even live up to. Is Irish Rail actively trying to discourage use of the Northern Service by commuters who pay some of the highest fares to travel? I'm failing to see what agenda is at play here.

    • The service was bad enough with oly four trains per day. Now its worst with only 3. It is totally unusable as the times are rediculous. I think this is a prelude to the Lim Junc.-Waterford line closing altogether. The bus is way cheaper and there is a service every two hours. A bunch of wasters.

    • The elimination of the 08:45 service from clonsilla seems very silly as the new liffey bridge is about to open making the docklands much more accessible to commuters in the south docks area. No service in coolmine between 08:37 and 8:58 (usually later) is a very significant issue given that the 8:58 train is still 4 car.

    • The new timetable is derisory - service through Glenageary reduced to 5 Darts between 8am-9am, some with only 6 carraiges resulting in overcrowding. This gives no encouragement to people to use public transport and is a disgrace. The service is disimproving steadily despite all the investment in it.
