People in the Rhondda want a local paper at the heart of their community, putting real local issues under scrutiny and looking out for local people's interests. This petition seeks to reflect those views and asks for Media Wales to continue to provide a quality, independent Rhondda Leader with a dedicated team who work on the Leader only.

- It is vital for our community to have a local team dedicated to a single-minded pursuit of Rhondda-only news. We are already struggling for resources against larger competition. We don't want to fight other communities for resources but we do need a mechanism for celebrating local successes and a voice for airing local issues - please don't make us fight for this on a weekly basis.

- The Rhondda Leader has always been at the forefront of reporting on local affairs for villages and towns in the Rhondda Valley. The current editorial team have always presented an accurate, balanced and well constructed account of what life is really like in these communities. Many residents in the Rhondda valleys send the Rhondda Leader overseas and to other parts of the UK. By making the current editorial staff redundant, I feel that the content of the Rhondda Leader will be diluted and the Rhondda Leader's sales will suffer as a consequence. The Rhondda Leader is a very important part of people's lives and does not deserve to be diluted in any shape or form.

- I have been active in Public Life for 60 years and the Rhondda leader and its staff have always been an integral part of the Rhondda Community. I have not always agreed with everything it has printed but I believe it is a retrrograde step if we do not retain our own editorial team.

- This makes no sense - if the Pontypridd Obersver, currently working out of the same office as the Rhondda Leader, it to retain it's independence, why not the Leader? The extra costs must be minimal
