This petition addresses the administration committee at Redwood High School within the Tamalpais Union High School District, as well as all persons involved in, connected to, or associated with the annual event of the Junior Prom and Senior Ball that is hosted for Redwood students at varying locations. The majority of the student body of Redwood High School is strongly against the current proposed idea of combining these two traditional events, and we would like to bring to your attention the following points.
1. First, we would like to bring to your attention the existence of a current Facebook group. Facebook is a social networking website of which thousands of present and past Redwood students have created a profile on. The website allows its users to create groups for members with common interests. One such group is entitled "Petition Against Combined Junior/Senior Prom at Redwood". 143 Redwood students, comprised mostly of the classes of 2009 and 2010, belong to this group, and several have expressed their distaste at the combined prom idea.
2. Combining proms will create many technical difficulties that will cause far more problems then they solve. The current venue in place for Senior Prom will not hold over 400 students, plus an unknown amount of guests. There would have to be an unprecedented amount of chaperones, and the financial burden would increase due to the raised costs of venue rental at this late point in time, as well as on the students as the normal transportation to the proms (limos, party buses) will be twice as difficult to book.
3. Combining proms, especially in such a large school, will contradict the traditional values associated with the dance. The 'junior prom' is titled so after the late 19th century promenade balls. The 'senior ball' is titled so due to the association with graduation ball. The tradition of prom, in some form or another, has lasted since 1811 and it would be disgraceful to disrupt this tradition now, specifically at Redwood.
4. If the junior prom and senior ball are combined, it is highly likely the prestige of prom will be slackened. The junior prom has always been considered less formal than the senior prom. Combining them will rob the class of 2009 of their formal pre-graduation tradition- making prom less special.
We plead of the administration to consider our concerns, and deep resentment, against the idea of combined proms. Thank you for your time.

- Administration, with all due respect,, you are unable to change the habits and lives of all your students. I commend you for trying to make everything safer, but the be-all end-all is that if someone wants to do something against your wishes, they're going to do it. Attacking the problem like this makes more people angry than it does solve a problem.

- It's been seperate for a very long time. I think it's only just that as a graduating class, Seniors should get to go to prom without a non-graduating class attending.

- it is ridiculous to combine junior and senior proms this year. the admin didnt even take into consideration what their students want. if theyyre worried about problems and safety at prom- more people increases the risks of something bad happening.

- This is upsetting for both classes, everyone enjoys having seperate proms and combining them would truly detract from the prom experience.

- The separation of the two events has long been accepted. Juniors have an opportunity to experience their first prom while seniors are able to spend their last event before graduation together. The infliction of the Juniors on the Senior Ball event would not be appropriate for the senior class.

- there are going to be too many people crammed in a small space, and no one will have as much fun. it would be better to have to serperate dances to let the seniors have their special moment and let the juniors have theirs

- Its our last year and I agree some younger classman come to the senior prom anyway but we won't see each other until our reunion and with their being so many people at the combined prom, it will be too hectic and even MORE DRAMA then before. So please this is a night for the seniors not really for majority of redwood high school
