I agree that J.R. Richard, former pitcher for the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball was one of the greatest pitchers ever for the franchise before a tragic injury cut short his career. I believe that the Houston Astros should honor J.R. Richard by retiring his jersey number 50 in a ceremony at Minute Maid Park.

    • Coming of age as a Braves fan in the late 1970s (Phil Niekro and pray for four days of rain), no pitcher intrigued me more than J.R. Richard. His stuff was as intimidating as his ferocious mound presence, which is even more impressive considering he had to wear those rainbow unis. Watching him toy with the likes of Rowland Office and Biff Pocoroba was truly depressing, but in an entertaining way. Had his health cooperated, he'd most probably be in the HOF now. The year he was disabled was shaping up to be his best; it was the second year in a row his control showed marked improvement. And he won one more game as an Astro than Nolan Ryan. J.R. in his prime was the best pitcher Houson ever had; it would be a real nice touch if Astros management arranged his number retirement ceremony to coincide with Clemens' home debut.

    • J.R. absolutely dominated for you until stroke cut his career short. Do the right thing. Retire his number and have a big ceremony on a big attendance day.
