The Routemaster bus, with its open back and conductors, is a global symbol of Britains capital, cherished by Londoners and tourists alike. It seems that you are intent on scrapping this bus without so much as asking the people who use it, and others, if this is what they want.

Admittedly, it has its drawbacks. Its not the most wheelchair accessible form of transport. And where possible every effort should be made to make transport accessible. Its also maybe more expensive to maintain than modern buses.

But a balance has to be struck between these concerns and the role this bus plays as a design icon, symbol of London, and, most importantly, a comfortable and enjoyable form of transport. Also, in London, these iconic buses operate only a small number of routes anyway. And these buses are still going strong after half a century.

Please, Transport for London, dont consign the Routemaster to the bus garage of history.

    • There is nothing more convenient than allowing one to jump off a routemaster when it's halfway down a long road and you're a long way from a stop. Please show some common sense and bring them back.

    • Having travelled on the Routemaster buses for many years and experiencing a ride today on one of 11 left at present, it is obvious to me that they are more user friendly and a true london experience that should not be lost because of so called 'budgets'. I am throughly against the 'bendy buses' which take up more room on the already congested roads of London, and the routemaster reflects the fast paced everyday life of Londoners and visitors alike who can easily hop on and off the bus at thier convienience. Therfore i believe that the Routemaster is a symbol of London and would be greatly missed by many many people!

    • It would be nice to see new-build routemasters. Nice new British, front-engined rear-entrance double deckers - that'd be wonderful
