On June 6th, Fanfiction.net changed the listing pages so that they only show stories that were G->PG13. Their explanation for doing so was, and I quote, 'to make sure users do no accidentally read higher rated stories.'
Now, authors like myself who write mostly R - rated stories are losing readers because of this! Most viewers forget to change it back to G->R and. thus, don't end up reading a large portion of fanfiction, which is what we write. As I stated before, WE ARE RAPIDLY LOSING READERS. Also, to cope with the sudden loss of readers, many great authors have been forced to dumb-down their stories to get a PG13 rating.
We will not stand for this!
I suggest that Fanfiction.net puts the listing pages back to the way they were before, only this time they can put a pop-up warning on R - rated fanfics telling the person that the story they are about to read is rated R, like they do for the NC17 stories.

    • I really don't like this! I find myself over looking stories cause of this! It's like a really bad dream! Plus, I read mostly Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Stories and 25% of the GOOD ones are R rated! Change it back to the old ways!!!

    • The 'G-PG13' people should just look at the rating first. But this is stupid! No one is acknowledging some of the greatest fanfictions ON FanFiction.Net! I'm sick of going back and changing the G-PG13 rating to all of the ratings! There are immature 13 year olds, but that's their fault for clicking on the link in the first place. And it's just fanfiction. Not reality! Just mere entertainment for people... People who are mature enough to accept it!

    • The choices are simple. Either we start lying and make R fics say pg13, or you change it back. I preferred the old way very much, and this petition is evidence I'm not alone.

    • They should keep them all on one pagey! It's true, the stories don't get seen, don't get read, dont get reviewed if that blocky thingie is up.

    • This is definitly a good idea, I liked it much better when they had it the older way. I write Johnny the Homicidal Maniac fanfiction, so it's hard to write a decent one without having gore or anything in it. Plus a lot of the best stories are rated R or higher! Stupid, over-reacting people who are all like "Oh no! I've read R and it's all bad and stuff!" I hope this petition gets the point across and they put it back to how it used to be!

    • Come on! If you know you are reading something you shouldnt, then it is your fault. You dont just stop showing R-rated movies, because someone under 17 sneaks in.

    • That's true. I sometimes forget to change the rating in order to see some of my friends writings. I miss a lot of the stories that--even if they are R-rated--are very well written. So please, reconsider.

    • Most people don't even see my updates to my series anymore because the newer parts have to be R-rated for content. It's unfair to me that I no longer get readership like I did. I have to remind people that the fics are updated, when before the change over, readers could see for themselves. I'm asked constantly when my fics are updated and have to remind people to change the rating display. It's also unfair to the readers. I can understand not displaying the NC-17 rated fics...but not the R-rated ones. Readers should be allowed the right to choose not to view r-rated fics.

    • We need it to be G-R! Seriously... it's the person's fault if they click on an R story and they don't want to read it.

    • If the r-rated stories were shown by default, it would be a lot easier to read them, as people keep forgetting about them and therefore do not read them.

    • I must agree with all of you- rated R stories ARE losing viewers. Even though I haven't written an R rated fic, I've read lots- they're some of the best fics out there! We've got to save them!

    • I agree with everyone. i myself am 13, but i belive most of the good stories are indeed r rated, and who are you to stop the authors from sneeking the r-nc17 ratings down to pg13? you cant read ALL of them! there's simply too many of them. Please, just change it back and put a *warning you are about to read a fanfiction that is rated r (or nc17)*

    • It is so ridiculous for the rating to be from G to PG-13. For God's sake, who's interests does it serve? It merely annoys the 95 per cent of FanFic.net users that have reached the mental/physical level of maturity to read stories with some reality-bases. I so often forget to change the rating that I have probably missed tons of good stories because of the hypocrisy of FF.net. End to the rating system that I feel is just one bad joke!

    • This resulted in the decrease of people reading those fics, because soemtimes they might forget to turn on the ratings to G-)R. I Myself, usually write mostly "R" fics, sometimes forget to make this and I wonder where my own stories on the site went!

    • I'm just entering this since I know some people, at least Albedo, only use this rating because they sometimes don't know just what course a story will take over time.

    • Now they don't even have the NC17 stories, anymore. They still have the R rated stories out of the main fanfiction list... This is just stupid, I'm going to other fanfiction sites.

    • I'm sorry, but the people running FF.net obviously don't want people's support. First they get rid of NC-17, now R? This is making my head hurt...I need some aspirin -__-

    • The stories have the rating on them-if people are stupid enough to click on them-it is their own fault. Also, if they continue to read them-once again it is their own fault.

    • I've been on FF.N way back when they still had message boards and the Invader Zim category only had 7 pages, and I must say that I am deeply, deeply appalled. Why must our beloved fanfiction site, one that actually tells us to release our imagination and free our soul (which usually contains such things that must be rated R) turn itself into a tutti-frutti, lovey-dovey Happy Fun Place? It's a paradox, and a disturbing one at that. You must not restrict the freedom of writers simply because a few idiots were let loose in the R-rated stories and decided to complain. Please reconsider this heinous act, Fanfiction.Net. It's not justifiable in the least.

    • I'm with these guys. People who are too dumb to pay attension to ratings have no right to complain. Also, I don't see how it's helping you guys out since this kinda forces some authors to lie in their summary just to get more reconition and make it easier for people to find their stuff. This will only give you more complaints and make the 'problem' worse than it was before. Put it back to the old way and save us all from an un-necessary headache. (and a lot of money on pain relievers as well) It's not fair to the majority of us FF readers who are mature enough to handle R rated stuff, please change it back-be fair to everyone and not just those thick-headed people who still believe that Barbie and Ken are atomically correct.
