Muslims around the world are deeply disappointed and resent the conferment of knighthood on writer Salman Rushdie by the UK Government.

We deplore and regret this truly irrational decision by the government of the United Kingdom as it has negated the objective of building a trusty relationship between civilizations and shows an utter lack of sensitivity.

This decision was certainly not expected from the British Government as it has incited unnecessary feelings of discrimination against the Muslim Community.

Salman Rushdie is a notorious writer who is more of a hated figure around the Muslim world for the insulting and vilifying manner in which he portrays Islam and its esteemed figures. He is known less for his literary contributions and more for his offensive writings which have deeply hurt Muslim sentiments around the world.

This decision of knighting him can only do further harm to Britain's image in the Muslim world. Needless to say, this is certainly not the way to win the hearts and minds of billions of Muslims around the world.

The author of this petition urges all his brothers and sisters in the Muslim world to sign it and declare their utter disgust and resentment over the decision of knighting Salman Rushdie, which we feel is truly provocative and insidious in nature.

We also urge the British Government to reconsider its decision and strip Salman Rushdie of his knighthood title.

    • The award should immediately be taken back. Pakistan government should take strong stand against UK on this issue. Its time now that we should be ourseleves and show our own identity to the world rather than be oppressors all the time.

    • This is the worst thing these non muslims could do. They honor knight hood to a one who is extremely controversonal. This award is an insult of Muslim sentiments and Islam. The british government should make apologies for this act.

    • How can someone who isnt tolerant of other's religion be considered for Knighthood. The Queen lost her self respect by the way she handled affairs after the death of the late Princess Diana and now it seems that she has lost any semblance of common sense

    • Doesnt Britain have anything better to do than to bestow knighthood on a man who has offended the religious sentiments of billions of Muslims around the world with his blasphomous remarks. They say they respect Islam and are respectful of Muslim sentiments, yet they invade our countries and lands, kill our people without any remorse, rape our women and then ask us why we resist through terroristic tactics. And on top of that they knighted this fellow. There are thousands and thousands of people in the UK and commonwealth who deserve knighthood why did they choose him. These are double standards and an absolute disgrace. Anti semmiticism of the highest order.
