Id-deċiżjoni mgħaġla tal-gvern li jibni inċineratur ġo MXlokk ma jistax ikun ġustifikat. Din l-għaġla ġejja minħabba l-fatt li l-Gvern irid jilħaq il-miri tal-Unjoni Ewropea dwar l-enerġija minn sorsi alternattivi u allura għażel l-inċinerazzjoni tal-iskart li huwa sors alternattiv mill-aktar ineffiċjenti u li anki jniġġes.

Malta gżira żgħira u n-nofs in-nhar ta Malta ġa jinsab imniġġes minn impjanti industrijali li fuqhom tiddependi l-infrastruttura nazzjonali kollha. L-inċinerazzjoni mhux biss iniġġes l-ambjent, iżda jmur kontra l-prinċipju tar-riċiklaġġ. Din hija raġuni oħra għala organiżżazzjonijiet ambjentali internazzjonali jopponu l-inċinerazzjoni.

Qegħdin għalhekk nagħmlu petizzjoni lill-Gvern Malti biex jisma liċ-ċittadini u jikkunsidra sorsi alternattivi tal-enerġija flok l-inċinerazzjoni. Min-naħa l-oħra, għandna bżonn sistema serja tal-immaniġġjar tal-iskart li telimina l-bżonn ta dan il-periklu għas-saħħa u nevitaw iktar ħsara lill-ambjent naturali tal-lokalita.

Jekk il-gvern ma jieħux din il-petizzjoni bis-serjeta, mgħandna l-ebda triq oħra ħlief li ntellgħu dan il-każ fil-kumitat għall-petizzjonijiet fil-Parlament Ewropew biex nimbuttaw il-kawża tagħna l-quddiem.

We do not want an incinerator

Governments hasty decision to build an incinerator at MXlokk cannot be justified. This haste is due to the fact that the government needs to reach EU goals on alternative sources of energy, so they chose waste incineration a highly inefficient and polluting alternative energy.

Malta is a small Island and the south of Malta is already burdened with pollutants from industrial plants supporting the whole national infrastucture. Incineration not only pollutes the environment, but it also goes against the concept of recycling. This is another reason why international environmental NGOs oppose incinaration.

We therefore petition the Maltese government to listen to the people and consider alternative sources of energy instead of incineration. On the other hand, a serious waste management system would eliminate the need for such a health hazard and avoid another eyesore in the south.

If the government does not take this petition seriously, we would have no option but to take this petition to the European Parliaments petitions committee in order to further promote our cause.]
