Whereas Starbucks management has fired two baristas, Aisha Syed and Benita Singh for wearing nose studs in the work place,
Whereas, Starbucks dress code in this regard is insensitive to the cultural value of this ornament for South Asian women and to the policy of multiculturalism in Canada,
Whereas, Starbucks dismissal of Aisha and Banita is an unjustifiable discrimination against their culture and their democratic right to affirm their cultural identity,
And whereas, Starbucks dress code prohibiting its employees to wear nose rings contradicts its own diversity statement, which states that embracing diversity is the right thing to do socially and ethically,
We, the undersigned, petition Starbucks to be true to its mission statement declaring its commitment to provide a non-discriminatory working environment irrespective of race, class, gender, and ethnicity, to change its dress code to make it consistent with this principle, and apologize to the women they have fired.

- I wear a nose stud and work in a high end retail store. Our clients have never been offended by it. After the firing of these two ladies,I shall never patronise Star Bucks again and will encourage my friends to boycott this chain as well.

- I am appalled by your antiquated mentality. Your business principles are still part of an old world colonial regime and I will never again patronise any Starbucks establishment. I will certainly encourage as many people as I can to participate in this boycott.
