We support the parents of Minto's young sporting elite who are calling on the State Government to declare Sarah Redfern High an official sports school to stop the exodus of talent from the region.

We are fed up with the talent drain from the Macarthur region and with children being forced to travel to Fairfield or Wollongong to attend a specialised sporting school. Also, too often parents choose not to send their children to Westfields Sports High School in Fairfield because it was simply too far for them to travel. There needs to be a local alternative.

We want the school's already successful sports programs recognised by the government. If successful, we want to open the school to the sporting elite from across the region.

Sarah Redfern High School opened in the early 80s, boasts a plethora of former students who have gone on to become elite sportsmen and women including rugby league players John Skandalis, Kevin and Ken McGuinness, the three Paea brothers, two who currently play for the Roosters and one for the Titans and up and soccer greats, the Kharmis sisters just to name a few.

Minto has also been home to dozens of sporting greats who went straight to Westsfields from primary school including Eels players Krisnan Inu and Jarryd Hayne and Melbourne Storm players Israel Folau and the Afamasaga brothers.

Please keep our junior sports stars near their homes and let them realise their potentially locally. Make Sarah Redfern High an official sports school and stop the exodus of talent from the region.

    • Australians and Australia have a long history of sporting magic "reaching the unreachable", however lack of accessibility to facilities will eventually end the magic. All children need access to pursue or discover their ability. By making Sarah Redfern a sports school this will open region and enhance the local environment in all aspects.

    • I strongly agree that Sarah Redfern High School should be a sports high school. It is an excellent school and this would be a fantastic opportunity for many of the students who excell in sports.

    • Campbelltown needs to start looking after the talent in this area and think hard about keeping them local. We lose so much talent to out of region teams because Campbelltown simply do not have the facilities to help talented people reach their full potential. So go hard SARAH HIGH I'm with you guys 100\% all the way to make SRHS a sporting school.

    • I don't live in this area, however I believe in a fair go. I grew up in Sydney's West at Green Valley and people had a low opinion of me when I mentioned where I lived. They are all snobs and some of our students went on to become lawyers, doctors, accountants and even some famours actors/actresses, not to mention sports people. Give these young people a chance to shine and they will not let you down!

    • This is a great idea. My daughter, who does gymnastics was asked to go to Westfields feeder school (King's Park primary) but the amount of travel made it impossible. This would also have great benefits for local business. I urge all Macarthur parents to get behind this idea and help to make it come to fruition.
