A large 12.5 acres of undeveloped woodlands on Hellenic Hill which overlooks Jamaica Pond was put on sale in January 2011. The big money pressures will be immense to maximize the development of these lands. We respectfully support the conservation and preservation of Jamaica Ponds watershed.
+ Jamaica Pond has been an important source of water for wildlife and people since the beginning of time.
+ Native Americans and people through the ages have enjoyed the beauty of the waters and hill.
+ Jamaica Pond was the water reservoir for Boston up to the 1850s and it is still an emergency water source.
+ The underground springs have made Jamaica Pond one of the cleanest waters in the entire state.
+ Jamaica Pond Park is used daily by thousands of people to revitalize their physical, mental and spiritual health.
We petition Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Massachusetts General Court, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, Boston City Council, and Citizens to purchase these lands and conservation easements to:
+ Conserve and Preserve Jamaica Ponds watershed.
+ Ensure the Integrity of the Emerald Necklace parks envisioned by Frederick Law Olmsted as a sanctuary for all the citizens.

- In 1924, Charles Sprague Sargent first director of the Arnold Arboretum, wrote to Mr. E.W. Baker of the Town of Brookline on behalf of the trees of the Longwood Mall and their benefactor David Sears. He wrote, ...They are the finest trees now living which have been planted in Greater Boston and so far as I know the finest grove of European Beeches in the United States...This group of trees is perhaps the greatest thing of which Brookline can boast..." Eighty years hence, may the same be said of the trees on Hellenic Hill.

- Jamaica Pond and its surroundings is a resource for the entire Greater Boston community. Destruction of the Hellenic Hill woods will destroy the habitat for the birds and animals at the pond, increase the noise level, and increase pollution. Please save this very precious resource for future generations.

- Hellenic Hill as a wild space creates a sense of peace and open space that is very, very important to maintain.
