We strongly object to the current plans by the London Borough of Waltham Forest for considerably reduced weekday openings of the William Morris Gallery. We also object to removal of the curators of the Gallery's important collection - one of the largest collections of William Morris material in the world. Access and interpretation are crucial to the success of any museum, and to reduce both is unacceptable. The Gallery is a vital international, national, and local asset to Walthamstow, and should be maintained accordingly.

    • After 30 years as an archivist/curator, I am well aware of both the pressures on funding such positions and the importance of doing so. I urge you to do the right thing and abandon plans to reduce support. The William Morris Gallery is an invaluable cultural jewel in the Waltham Forest Council crown. Celebrate it.

    • Everyone is facing cut backs, but those proposed could result in long-term damage.. Although curation and scholarly access must be prioritised, it would be a very great pity that the local stakeholders would have much reduced access to the single most important cultural asset of Walthamstow.

    • The Council are acting out of ignorance and arrogance rather than prudence. What kind of legacy can we leave future generations if we allow such people to ride roughshod over our heritage?

    • As a student just beginning a Masters program in Decorative Arts History, I am just now tapping into William Morris. It would be a shame to limit any educational material.
