We urge the Commission to retroactively grant the permit to install sculpture on the facade of the building at 24 Bond St, New York. Bond Street is part of the Noho special zoning district which was created to allow artists to live and work in factories that had been abandoned. It is now a thriving community, thanks in large part to the artists living there.
The sculpture was started over ten years ago, before the area was designated an landmark district. The artist, Bruce Williams, is certified by the Department of Cultural Affairs to live and work in this building. His sculpture is a valuable addition to the cultural tradition of the area and helps preserve the tradition of art in New York.
Images of the sculpture are available at http://scultore.wordpress.com

- The sculpture pre-existed the landmarking and should be retained, at very least through a grandfathering provision.

- To prevent high quality, appropriate building enhancement is against the nature of New York City.

- The figures on this building are part of what makes this block of Bond Street one of the most unusual and enticing in the city. They set the tone for a stretch of urban artscape where art and architecture combine and respond to each other now in building after building. It was the vision and impulse of Bruce Williams who put up the figures in the 90s and got this local art surge started. I believe he should be allowed without penalty to continue to follow that vision which has resulted in adding so much to this part of the city.

- The elegant sculptures draw your attention away from the street and enable you to see the beauty of this NoHo neighborhood.

- The dancers bear eloquent witness to the neighborhood, and their ethereal presence does nothing to impair the preservation of 24 Bond. To the contrary, they enhance it. Well done, Mr Williams!

- Anything that gets under the skin of the establishment is probably a good thing. Put the sculptures on all of the buildings in Noho!

- How will lightweight paper mache sculptures hurt anyone? This is the kind of thing that tourists and visitors love. Also controversy will bring people into the neighbourhood- which can't hurt!
