Respected Sir/Madam,



It came to my notice recently that in India, suicide is a punishable crime. I would like to remark that this is not fair and is a dark spot on the face of a democracy such as ours. I would like to bring to your notice that one's life is his own, it does not belong to the police. The police has absolutely no right to arrest the person concerned. Not only that, but the fact also remains that a person who attemts suicide is mentally disturbed, he/she requires counselling, not the hardships of prison. If he/she is thrown into prison, then it is not going to cure the concerned person...it will only result in making him/her worse than ever and cause him/her to attemt suicide again, and maybe even succeed. What suicidal persons need is not prison but a rehabilitation center. With proper counseeling only can they be cured. Therefore, I, on behalf of all those who have signed this petition request the authorities to make amends in this law.

    • I too agree with thr above petition.I understand that the fear of punishment might stop a person from takin the drastic step of comittin suicide,however,it is also important to note that the people who do take this fatal step are obviously dealing with situations such that they are not afraid of the punishment.So,it would be better to provide such people with help they require!I sure hope you will pay heed to this petition.

    • this is his/her life ,they can do whatever they want and police should not intefare becos when they live miserable life no one come to them for help and when they took this drastic step u just called them criminal,sucide is not a crime . So plis stop punishing those people who was already punished by the hardship of life

    • i total agree with u, what the person needs is rehablitation,throwing the person into perison will worsen the matter and make the person to feel more rejected.But according to the Bible and the law of God whoever does that has sent his soul to eternal damnation. It is a sin for someone to take his own life, the Bible pronounce course upon such people. Emotional problem can lead to suicide, so my advice to us is this, whever we come across someone going through emotional problems, pls try to cancel and encourage the person is very important.

    • Suicide is NOT A CRIME! We belong to nobody. It's our body, our right to choose whether to live or die; nothing more nothing less! As far as bringing God into the equation: Isn't God a loving, all loving entity? Let not irrational passages of the bible to fear, as this is merely traditions of man inducing FEAR unto others. I believe in a loving God, a forgiving God not a malevolent entity infused with rath and fury. Always remeber the bible is merely symbolic and can be easily misconstrued; it should never be taken literally.

    • It is a basic human right of a person to decide when he or she wants to die. Any society that does not accept this is a fascist society. There is no god and no soul. Once you die you are free and have no problems.
