This petition is for the education of every student enrolled in any U-46 school right now, any alumni that had to deal with the same cutbacks, and any future student whose future may be jeopardized.

The current proposal for U-46 is a 17 million dollar cutback which could include: Freezing the pay of administrators and nonunion employees, continuing to restrict "discretionary funds" on supplies, reducing transportation costs by continuing to limiting field trips, and examining the staffing in all areas. This is on top of the cutbacks from previous years which included: letting go teachers, cutting back on classes, and cutting back financial spending for academic classes.

Parents and students alike are outraged over the many cut backs over the past several years. While the next generation of adults education is at risk, former Superintendent Connie Neale is receiving over $250,000 a year as well as health benefits, a contribution to the state Teacher's Retirement System and other benefits for a total of about $405,000.

We will not stand for this anymore. U-46's disregard for it's own staff and students has taken its toll on the community and enough is enough. We need to stand up and fight for the children's education, because nothing is more important then the education of America's future.

    • We just want to be able to experience high school like other kids were able to.

    • One of the Board's goals is to provide the students with the best education possible. IHSA events such as sporting events will still be provided for but non IHSA events such as many fine arts trips and many educational groups are being cut. Not every student wants to be an athlete but wants to have the opportunity for the same experiences.

    • I would never subject my children to your idea of a "solid education." Stop wasting money in places where it's not needed. You can't possibly expect students to be motivated to work hard and meet AYP each year if they keep getting their already meager privileges taken away. Be the district administrators we pay you to be, for once.

    • What makes athletics so special that they still get funding? I'm sick of seeing the arts diminish in highschools.

    • This is ridiculous. Dr. Torres isn't laughing maniacally as he rips classes from U-46 schools. He's doing what he has to do, so stop acting like he's an evil tyrant. Get a life. Or if these arts classes and field trips are so important to you, get involved in the subject outside of school.

    • Maybe sports funding should be cut... it's not like Elgin has any team that can compete.

    • I have 6 grand children going to U46 schools. Why is money wasted on lawyers and why isn't Neale's benefits cut? These kids need a better educations. Cut more administrators. Ask Obama for some of the stimulus funds. Don't take it out on the kids.
