We, the undersigned, are opposed to the Town of Boone's proposed 4.0 million gallons/day raw water intake facility that would withdraw water from the New River in Todd near the Watauga-Ashe County line. We are concerned about the environmental consequences and cultural impact to the historic New River, a designated American Heritage River.

I am amazed that the representitives of Ashe Co. have not done anything!! Nothing !! To help their community! Virgina Fox, where are you??

    • My wife and I own a home in Todd overlooking the Nrew River. As a protected river it never crossed our mind that any person, group or municipality would ever be able to get approval to do anything that would harm the river, much less, damage it in the way the Boone proposal has the potential to do.

    • My husband and I own a vacation rental property in Todd that overlooks the New River. With the New being a protected river we never imagined something like what the Town of Boone is proposing could ever happen. I believe it could very well be devasting to us and Ashe County as a whole.

    • My husband and I live in Todd. We own property on Pine Orchard Creek which feeds into the New River. The water intake project will permanently and irreversibly harm this precious natural resource. There are other viable options for Boone's water supply. The residents of Todd had no vote in this matter and have no representation in Boone.

    • My grandfather, Smith Richardson, bought his first land in the Todd area in the 1930's. Since then we have added significantly to the acreage known as Bald Mountain Farm . The families of his five children, some of whom are NC residents, others who live across the country, are committed t the area and dedicated to holding, protecting our land long into the future..Just as we love Todd and our land, we love the New River. Surely the town of Boone can find a better and more appropriate solution for their water issues than the contamination of this important river. Shame on them. Patricia Agnew
