The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the worlds waves, oceans and beaches for all people through conservation, activism, research, and education. Protecting recreational resources and teaching others that a breaking wave is a natural resource is central to our mission.

The Surfrider Foundation, Delaware Chapter supports the permit application submitted by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to reconstruct and refurbish the north and south timber and stone groins at Herring Point in Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, Sussex County, Delaware.

The Delaware Chapter feels that this action is the best of current options to ensure continued recreational use of the Herring Point beach area by all groups within the public.

The Capitol (District of Columbia) and the Ocean City (Maryland) chapters of the Surfrider Foundation also support this position.

I am a recreational user of the resources at Herring Point and I am hereby supporting Surfrider, Delaware Chapter's position.

    • As President of the Annapolis Surf Club and a user of this recreational area, I as well as the club I represent, support the saving of the Herring Point area with in the Cape Henlopen State Park. Its is a unique area of coast line that needs to be preserved for public use.

    • Herring Point is a wonderful place and many of us have had many enjoyable moments there. It is one of my favorite places on Earth. Repairing the groins is a very reasonable way to help preserve the beach without radically altering the environment. Through this approach, Herring Point will continue to thrive as a beautiful beach for surfers, fisherman, and other visitors of the beach to enjoy for years to come.
