Millennium Square in Coventry was funded and built with the intention of providing a functional public space, i.e. for gatherings and public performance. To make this possible, the Millennium Clock was supposed to be 'sunk' flush with the surface. This did not happen and now the clock is raised above the surface making use of the square, particularly for the disabled, impractical. For public events the clock must be covered, for public safety reasons, incurring an immediate cost of around 10,000. Coventry City Council now says it has 150,000 to spend on the square and has suggested 3 options, namely: a statue, information boards or floral arrangements. They have also aked for ideas and we believe that sinking the clock flush with the surface as originally intended would offer more value for money to the city and its people than the other three options, as it would offer a realistic opportunity for live performance of music for all ages and tastes, dance, fairs and other public gatherings. This would be an invaluable cultural investment in our city and a fitting purpose for a public monument symbolising all the promise of a new millenium. We believe 'Sinking The Clock' to be the best use of our public money.

- It will be a benefit to all concerned if a level surface is provided.

- millenium Place is a natural meeting point for the citizens of coventry and should be used as a vibrant working space for concerts, gigs, shows, entertainment, public gatherings, displays, fairs and markets. Currently it looks great lit up at night on the local news, but, is of little use for anything else.

- Sink the clock. It is a dangerous waste of space at the moment and cannot be easily used for the purpose it was intended for. It is a nice space and gets lots of sun. Everyone should be able to enjoy it without fear of tripping over.

- coventry coucil have spent way to much on flowers. and the whole waste of money on the closing and opening of access to pool medow also. this should be a public space available for public events and functions, e.g. live gigs, markets, festivals, etc.

- at last someone is addressing this! it was so disappointing when we realised the clock space wasn't going to provide a much needed focal point for free live events in the city centre. It's a great space & deserves to be used.
