WE, the undersigned, are concerned citizens. We have watched the development of a troublesome trend in the bias of the major news networks. The trend observed is a blatant favoritism of one political party over the other, especially in this election year. We are most disturbed by the inappropriate commingling of the newscasters, journalists, and anchors personal political opinions with what are supposed to be unbiased news stories.

By providing the viewing public with a biased view of current events, we feel that stations/networks can no longer advertise themselves as fair, accurate, and/or balanced. This characterization is wholly inaccurate, misleading, and damaging to the fabric of American society.

By subjecting the American people to this biased reporting, the aforementioned have usurped our constitutional right to think, ponder, and decide for ourselves. The only benefit of the distortion of national and world events is to the news media to gain advertising funds, or ratings quotas that the networks so readily crave. It is sad that the networks and cable news outlets are sacrificing their journalistic integrity for commercial gain.

This troublesome trend has gone on far too long and we sign this petition to have our collective voices heard.

While we respect the constitutional right of freedom of the press, that right neither forgives nor allows irresponsible bias within the confines of purported factual journalism.

If we are to allow such bias to remain within the realm of journalism, we also expect and demand a caveat of "editorial freedom" to be announced or printed before each report that is purported to be based on fact.

At the end of the online collection, we will email the results of this petition to the appropriate company officers for each network, followed by a hard copy printout sent via regular mail.

    • I sent a complaint to ABC, because they make comments which are heresay and not fact, which causes bias. It's biased news networks that are the reason, why I went from broadcasting as my major to genereal comm when I was in college
