A call for British Companies and/or Government to fund the Skylon Single Stage To Orbit Craft

Britain often produces ground breaking designs, but they fail or go abroad because the funding can not be found. Skylon is one of these projects but it has been more a less shot down by the British Governments refusal to fund the program. Skylon is a Single Stage To Orbit Aircraft and would slash the cost of putting satalites in space. The Skylon project is or was ahead of the American X-33 Single Stage To Orbit Craft. Skylon promised to be a world beater.

    • I agree wholeheartedly. Space is our future, and someone WILL develop a craft or the technology to do this soon. The British were great explorers in times of old, who created a vast "empire" at one time spanning 1/3 of the planet, and on who the sun never set (do a search if you don't have a clue what I'm on about). It would be fitting if the first revolutionary single-stage craft was British in origin. I am fed up of the British being relegated into the same league as less-powerful coutries, Britian is one of the leading countries in the world,. and deserves something like this. It's not like the government is short of a few bob. I pay taxes, and I want 'em spent on this research!

    • I totally agree with this. Britain started off as one of the worlds leading countries in virtually everything. Nowadays were subject to fumbling Beaurocracy, and being constantly upstaged by the Yanks across the water. I say we bring a bit of our success back to Britain.

    • The British aerospace industry once lead the world: There were even plans for a fully reusable shuttle system called MUSTARD that would have made the exploration of sapce and its commercial use as economic as the sea was in the 19th century.
