In 2006 the Australian government, then Liberal government, released a plan to build a $420m solar power plant in Victoria which would be the biggest Solar Power Plant in the world.
After all the hype surrounding this idea, it never happened.
Australia should lead by example and build the worldвs most advanced photovoltaic (PV) heliostat solar concentrator power station.
The proposed "CS500" dish concentrator PV unit design has 114 curved reflecting mirrors, which will track the sun throughout the day. This PV unit will only take up 0.23mВІ of space.
The 154 megawatt, project will generate 270,000 MWh per year, enough for more than 45,000 homes.
It will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 400,000 tonnes per year.
It will aid in reducing salinity.
It will create many, many jobs during manufacture, construction and operation.
But this $420m project would not only reduce costs of energy and reduce green house gas emissions, but it will act as a stepping stone. This project will be the beginning of an environmentally friendly revolution.
The Australian Labor Party, our current government, has said that they plan to cut emissions by 20\% by the year 2020. We must urge them to be true to their word.
I ask you all to sign this petition and begin the world wide environmentally friendly revolution. Thank you.
