Protect our land and our way of life for future generations. Act now to halt the complete surrender of our State Forest lands!

Pennsylvanias State Forest encompasses one of the largest unbroken expanses of forest remaining in the eastern United States. This land is a central defining characteristic of our region. Our forests are an irreplaceable public resource that improves our quality of life, provides invaluable protection for drinking water, and gives long-term sustainable economic, ecological, and recreational value. These woods belong to us. They are our special places to explore. These forests offer adventures for families and friends. They contain hunting grounds, fishing creeks, and favorite trails. Pennsylvanias State Forests are places of beauty and solitude where lasting memories are created.

Marcellus natural gas development on State Forest land impacts the integrity of the forest, the water, soil and air quality, and the recreational use of our public lands. It creates a footprint of forest fragmentation and the introduction of invasive species, both of which are incompatible with forest sustainability.

Nearly one-half of the State Forest land in the Marcellus Shale region is leased and open to exploitation by the gas industry. Only ten percent of Pennsylvanias public lands are legally protected from gas development. The short term profit from gas drilling will be far outweighed by the long term damage to our forests.

Save our State Forests from destruction! Take this opportunity to defend our states future.

As elected officials pledged to uphold the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rights of PA citizens to clean water, clean air and quality of life, preservation of these State Forests is both your duty and obligation.

We, the citizens, demand:

A legislative moratorium on any additional leasing of State Forest lands for the purposes of natural gas exploration, drilling, production or pipelines.

A program to monitor and assess the impact of natural gas exploration, drilling, and production on State Forest land

Laws to protect our forests so as to preserve water and air quality, natural habitats, and recreational use

    • I am a landowner of these woods. As the state needs income, pass a severance tax on the natural gas companies. They should pay for using my land for their greed - these are HUGE companies, our severance tax would be drops in the bucket to them.

    • Since 1966 I have been associated with a year-round facility that runs a camp for young people in the summer and a cross-country ski facility in the winter. There is no place dearer to my heart than this beautiful and peaceful place in the Endless Mountains. Please stop this dangerous fracking activity throughout the State of PA which threatens the very existence of so many ecologically sensitive areas.

    • Drilling will NOT help Pennsylvania's fiscal problems. Rather, it will guarantee that thousands of individuals will become sieck from drinking their own water, that landowners will lose the value of their peoperties, that Pennsylvania's vaunted tourism industry will suffer dramatically, and that portions of the state will become deserted because they will be unlivable. The gas drilling industry is a criminal enterprise, talking about solving America's energy needs, while exposing its own workers to dangerous chemicals, and shipping much of the gas out of the country. Anyone who helps this industry is as much a criminal as they are. Shame on you Mr. Corbett, for playing into the hands of this rapacious industry. The U. S. attorney general's office should look into YOUR behavior k into e

    • Gov. Corbett, Pennsylvania is a "Commonwealth", which means the state lands belong to every Pennsylvanian, not to the government, the gas and oil industry, or any other industry. These lands are, and must continue to be protected and preserved under the PA Constitution Article 1, Section 27: Natural Resources and the Public Estate: (which clearly states) "The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people." We demand that you honor this constitutional right, and all of our constitutional rights!

    • Please preserve our State Forests for future generations of Americans and travelers here to the USA to view the beauty and wonder of nature. It is important to preserve as much natural land as we can for the future, it helps the wild life, plant life and keeps the ecology working the way it should.

    • Pennsylvanian politicians are being short-sighted and unduly influenced by the industry in deciding to drill on public lands. They are ignoring the science that explains the hazards of drilling to our clean air, water and forest damage. They are also ignoring the damaging effects economically to our tourism, and agricultural activities. This experiment needs to stop NOW!
