Protect our land and our way of life for future generations. Act now to halt the complete surrender of our State Forest lands!

Pennsylvanias State Forest encompasses one of the largest unbroken expanses of forest remaining in the eastern United States. This land is a central defining characteristic of our region. Our forests are an irreplaceable public resource that improves our quality of life, provides invaluable protection for drinking water, and gives long-term sustainable economic, ecological, and recreational value. These woods belong to us. They are our special places to explore. These forests offer adventures for families and friends. They contain hunting grounds, fishing creeks, and favorite trails. Pennsylvanias State Forests are places of beauty and solitude where lasting memories are created.

Marcellus natural gas development on State Forest land impacts the integrity of the forest, the water, soil and air quality, and the recreational use of our public lands. It creates a footprint of forest fragmentation and the introduction of invasive species, both of which are incompatible with forest sustainability.

Nearly one-half of the State Forest land in the Marcellus Shale region is leased and open to exploitation by the gas industry. Only ten percent of Pennsylvanias public lands are legally protected from gas development. The short term profit from gas drilling will be far outweighed by the long term damage to our forests.

Save our State Forests from destruction! Take this opportunity to defend our states future.

As elected officials pledged to uphold the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rights of PA citizens to clean water, clean air and quality of life, preservation of these State Forests is both your duty and obligation.

We, the citizens, demand:

A legislative moratorium on any additional leasing of State Forest lands for the purposes of natural gas exploration, drilling, production or pipelines.

A program to monitor and assess the impact of natural gas exploration, drilling, and production on State Forest land

Laws to protect our forests so as to preserve water and air quality, natural habitats, and recreational use

    • Gov. Corbett,The beautiful Loyalsock Creek and it's tribs have beeh awarder Exceptional Value by the DEP. It is surrounded by the 114,551 acre Loyalsock State Forest of which 47,912 acres havebeen leased or are severed. Add to that the scenic 780 acre Worlds End State Park that is severed and the thousands of acres of private land that are leased in the watershed. These leased and severed lands are having a huge negative impact on the watershed.DCNR will not be able to prevent drilling, roads and pipelines on the thousands of severed acres. Please follow the advice of the DCNR Marcellus Shale Impact Report that there are ZERO acres left to lease.

    • Unfragmented forest cover is critical to maintenance of water quality and indiginous wildlife as well as the restoration of rare or even extirpated species. Pennsylvania is blessed with large tracts of native forest preserved by prior generations who demonstrated foresight. Let us continue this legacy!

    • I understand the need for extra money in this economy. However, the state should not exploit the forests just for the natural gas under it, even if there is oil under that. The people of pennsylvania deserve a leader who will stand against the gas and oil companies who obviously care only of the profits they can make instead of the people, animals, and enviroment. If you are not this leader, than the people of Pennsylvania, including myself, will vote you out of office and vote someone who doesn't own stocks in these companies in.
