Protect our land and our way of life for future generations. Act now to halt the complete surrender of our State Forest lands!
Pennsylvanias State Forest encompasses one of the largest unbroken expanses of forest remaining in the eastern United States. This land is a central defining characteristic of our region. Our forests are an irreplaceable public resource that improves our quality of life, provides invaluable protection for drinking water, and gives long-term sustainable economic, ecological, and recreational value. These woods belong to us. They are our special places to explore. These forests offer adventures for families and friends. They contain hunting grounds, fishing creeks, and favorite trails. Pennsylvanias State Forests are places of beauty and solitude where lasting memories are created.
Marcellus natural gas development on State Forest land impacts the integrity of the forest, the water, soil and air quality, and the recreational use of our public lands. It creates a footprint of forest fragmentation and the introduction of invasive species, both of which are incompatible with forest sustainability.
Nearly one-half of the State Forest land in the Marcellus Shale region is leased and open to exploitation by the gas industry. Only ten percent of Pennsylvanias public lands are legally protected from gas development. The short term profit from gas drilling will be far outweighed by the long term damage to our forests.
Save our State Forests from destruction! Take this opportunity to defend our states future.
As elected officials pledged to uphold the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the rights of PA citizens to clean water, clean air and quality of life, preservation of these State Forests is both your duty and obligation.
We, the citizens, demand:
A legislative moratorium on any additional leasing of State Forest lands for the purposes of natural gas exploration, drilling, production or pipelines.
A program to monitor and assess the impact of natural gas exploration, drilling, and production on State Forest land
Laws to protect our forests so as to preserve water and air quality, natural habitats, and recreational use

- For many years, production royalties from existing shallow gas wells in State Forests went to DCNR to support State Parks and other programs. I request that you return this money to its rightful owner, DCNR, by reversing Gov. Rendells order that stole this money and put it in the States General Fund.

- The PA Constitution: "The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvanias public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people."

- Gov. Corbett, I ask, Do you hike or camp or fish in the eastern PA State Forests? If not, I suggest that you take some weekend or vacation time in these splendid wilderness areas. Then you will understand what everyone is talking about who wants a moratorium on gas drilling. Also, those whose drinking water is drawn from the Del. River basin rightly fear that this source will be contaminated for ours and our children's lifetimes.

- I own a cabin in Ward Twp., Tioga County. This activity has already impacted me by limiting access to my favorite forest areas as well as limiting parking at trail heads due to the storage of fuel tanks by the drillers. This is occurring within a stones throw of one of their pads.

- We should not have to keep begging to keep what is ours. Special interests have stolen our air, water, and all of our natural resources, taking the profits and leaving us with scraps.
