We the Residents, of NYC urge our representatives to say No towards the building of a 1500 bed jail that is proposed to be built in Hunts Point. With the crime rate currently down we feel that the needs of the community is much greater then the building of a jail. With the employment rate so low, poverty levels so high and our issues with our environment being so unfair in this community. We need a project that is going to bring Green Jobs into this community such as the Bronx Industrial Recycling Park. A need for Green Jobs is much more important then the incarceration of its young Men and Women!

    • Given that crime is down, a focus on educational initiatives and environmental/health awareness is the next logical step for a progressive, more equitable, healthy society. We must stop this cradle to prison mentality and stop equating warehousing of poor people lacking opportunity with job/community development. Kids need to see more than corrections as an opportunity for advancement in life. Green jobs not jails!
