We, the listeners of Hot 97 (WQHT) and family/friends/fans of Aaliyah Haughton, were outraged when morning show host Star made fun of the death of Aaliyah on August 27th 2001. Star has done horrible things in the past but this is the one that topped them all. Someone that would show total disrespect to the point of making fun of a person's death on the air for thousands of listeners to hear does not need to be on radio. Can you imagine the pain and heartbreak that the listeners felt when Star made a mockery of Aaliyah's death? Sure you didn't, because you were so worried about how many ratings you were going to get that day. Therefore, we are asking that you dismiss Star of his duties on Hot 97 (WQHT). We are also outraged at the fact there was no disciplinary action was taken. We now see that you are in it for the ratings and don't really care about what is said on your radio station and don't care about your listeners. We are here to say that such disrespect is NOT tolerated. If no action is taken after this petition is presented to you, this will result in a total boycott of Hot 97 (WQHT), by the listeners as well as the artists.

    • Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, but there are restrictions. Star crossed the line. Whether it was Aaliyah or anyone else, measures must be taken to ensure that such does not take place again.

    • I cannot believe that. I mean if he didn't like Aaliyah, that's fine but you don't make fun of a persons death. As for Hot 97, if I got the station I would boycott it.

    • Although the mockery Starr made of Aaliyah's death was in no way acceptable, that's not the only reason he should be taken off the air. Plain and simple he's ignorant. He apologized, but only because he was concerned with keeping his job, there was no remorse. And the people responsible for putting Starr back on the air may as well have aired the screams and plane crash sound effects themselves, because they are also to blame. Other victims of Starr's deragatory comments include every ethnicity, the gay community, women, and various types of entertainers. If this were any other country but America his tongue would not still be in his mouth.

    • I live in D.C., and my radio stations showed alot of sorrow for Aaliyah. To hear another radio station do such a thing, especially with a very admired person's death, the whole radio station needs some guidance if they cannot penalize Star for such an indecent act.

    • Please stop hate. Death is death. Public speakers should respect the feelings of those who are grieving. Freedom of speech is available to all, but I don't feel radio personalities should be paid to purposely hurt others.
