To Whom It May Concern at the Public Broadcast Service (PBS):

The Reading Rainbow is without a question among the most educational and fun of childrens programming. This show has introduced countless children to the wonderful world of reading, and has instilled a love of literature in the United States.

To cancel a show that delves beyond how to read, and rather concentrates upon why we should read, may result in cancelling out the love of reading this show has so carefully brought to generations.

We- those who have grown up with the show, who have watched as our children bloom through the shows good influence, who await the opportunity to introduce our current or future children to this program- ask that you reconsider. Funding programs that concentrate upon how to read rather than why we should read may greatly reduce the literacy level in this country. Instructing children specifically in how to brush their teeth will not incite excitement in the actual tooth-brushing process; similarly, phonetic instruction will not create a love and adoration of the written word.

We ask that you provide funding to continue this show which has helped so many. Though hundreds of thousands of dollars are necessary, we believe that this program is worth the investment.

We ask that you renew The Reading Rainbow and continue the literary love this new generation will be so in need of. In a time where economic and climate crisis are abound, a good book will always remain an entertaining and educational American pastime.

    • This show was a strong contributing factor to the healthy man I am today. Please keep it on the air so other children may grow up to be healthy individuals with warm nostalgic memories as well. P.S. Bring back the original 80's intro too, best ever.
