To the Attention of Joe Quesada and the powers that be at Marvel Entertainment's publishing division:

We the undersigned are boycotting Marvel Comic's Premiere Hardcover Format

We appreciate Marvel's duties as a business to provide profit to the company and its shareholders by releasing its comics in multiple formats to satisfy different markets. The Premiere Hardcover format, in some limited instances, has been a welcome addition regarding mini-series that will not receive other treatments, but it has been at the expense of other, more preferred customer formats.

We believe that the current release schedule is a hinderance to new and existing readership by delaying the provision of softcover trade paperback collections and oversized hardcovers past the point of reader interest, often years after initial release.

Marvel also has an obligation to use good and sound business practices when dealing with customers. This includes providing a release schedule as to what titles will be collected and in what format, so that readers can make informed decisions about purchases far enough in advance. The fleecing of existing readers by keeping them uninformed about format releases so as to make them purchase multiple formats is unacceptable, and the delay in softcover trade paperbacks with lower price points only serves to keep new readership away.

As loyal fans and readers, we hope that Marvel will take this petition under advisement in order to maintain our support and business.

    • Marvel's publishing practices, both in price and format, have led me to stop buying their single issues entirely. I support oversized hardcovers, but their release is so late and sporadic that by the time they come out, I have lost interest in the characters/storylines. The delay Premiere Hardcovers cause to other formats has now lost Marvel the bulk of my 20+ years of readership.

    • Actually, the Premiere hardcovers have saved me a lot of money. By the time a story I was only sort of interested in becomes available in a format I'd be willing to purchase (trade paperback or, even better, oversized hardcover), either the story's been spoiled or I've simply forgotten about it. Bendis's top-selling AVENGERS books are, what, 30 issues delayed in oversized hardcover? It's a shame, I was really looking forward to that.

    • No incentive for me to buy these, when I have the originals. Had been buying a lot of the Oversized HCs.

    • Con questi Premiere Hardcover ci hai stufato. Adesso, caro Quesadone, smettila. Dacci i softcover, che costano meno.

    • I love the oversized hardcovers. I own nearly twenty in my collection, but the premiere hardcovers are not sensible, so i refuse to purchase any.

    • I hadn't thought of this problem before, but I see how it is a hinderance. I hope for Premiere Classics to remain, and for current mini-series, but New Avengers is getting three formats? What a rip off! And it took how many years for an oversized?

    • I wholeheartedly agree. Marvel definitely needs to do a better job of being clear on their release dates. This is not only a good way to keep dedicated fans on track with what's coming out, but also a great way to garner interest among potential readers out there. I personally do not read that many softcovers, as I've a penchant for hardcovers, but there is definitely a lackadaisical effort on the behalf of Marvel in communicating with the main source of their funding, their readers.

    • The PHC's are just not worth the price. They have the exact same content as the soft covers, but with the added frustration of a hard cover and dust jacket, both of which are cumbersome and a pain to deal with when trying to read such a thin book. The Over-Sized Hardcovers are a worthy investment, but the Premiers are nothing but a waste.
