One run in with the law can derail a person's job prospects for decades. Currently, a misdemeanor charge cannot be sealed for 5-10 years, and felony cases require a 10-15 year wait after the completion of any sentence. I believe that it should be ILLEGAL to discriminate solely based on the stigma of the label ex-felon!

Ex-Felons are people and would just like to reintegrate back into society and live an honest and upright life with the right to employment without having to check the infamous box, Have you ever been convicted of a felony?"

Not all those who have been convicted are ANIMALS as portrayed by the justice system; therefore some of us need NOT be categorized with revolving door criminals.
There is neither justice nor avenues for ex-felons whom have been convicted, paid there debt to society and lived an honest and upright life, with sobriety and peace?

I believe that if a person committed a crime and/or made a bad decision within their life and has not only paid the consequences, but learned from their past demeanor , then they should indeed be restored ALL civil rights and citizenship WITHOUT any clauses.

This should not be the mindset of ex felons "...I feel as though I've been diagnosed with an untreatable contagious disease for which I MUST BE Quarantined..." written by J. Christie

We the undersigned challenge The State of California legislators and the U.S. Congress for a new law for non-violent, one and/or two time offenders who are not career criminals, revolving doors, nor habitual. We ask that the new law alter penal code stipulations and State legal barriers. A major alteration would be to ban the four-millimeter checkbox from employment application as to afford equal opportunity and reduce recidivism. We urge the State of California to adopt CORI REFORM and legislation as follows:

    • Prisons for profit is a lucrative business and if that equation was subtracted, then there wouldn't be such a magnitude of people in thousands of prisons. Stop the disparity and disenfranchisement, it is inhumane and indignant!

    • If we don't do something to help ex-offenders re-integrate back into society, then we are doing nothing more then setting them up for failure.

    • I support this 100\%. i was in the military and i had an incident in which charges were brought against me and i couldn't remember what happened that night affraid of the worst i took the plea bargain and had to get out of the military and now i have never ben able to get job if they asked for my background. every time i try to explain and i never hear back. i used to hold a topsecret security clearence and was respected and now i can see how it is to be discriminated against. i am currently working on my electrical engineering degree and hopefully that will make it easier along with the passing of time. i believe that you should always keep your civil rights, and once your sentence is completed including probation you should not be asked for your background ever again.

    • IF they did the crime and did the time, why must they continue to be treated as criminals for the remainder of their life...GIVE THEM THEIR RIGHTS BACK.

    • I believe that the Criminal Offender Record Information System should not be available to the public past seven years, which would allow for those who have been categorized with a felony to be afforded their restoration of rights - Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. No person should endure discrimination based on the stigma of the label ex felon! I support CORI Reform and Ex Offenders Rights.

    • I am a recovering drug addict; even with a college degree, my extensive CORI has caused me to be denied employment an inumerable amount of times. I watch as old friends continue through the revolving door that is the current system. Recidivism is a partial result of CORI law. Where does rehabilitation end? At the door of that last possible employer. Not everyone possesses the same level of resilience... but everyone deserves the same chance. Make The Change - Chuck M.

    • **************** My name is nathan cox and I don't know if I can vote.... I was convicted of burglary 1 and theft 1 in the same case (one crime). The only way they got me was I knew I had done a bad thing, I did not know the consequences and returned the stolen goods. I did my time and I have now stopped drug use, never commited another crime, have a family and a house, and am very blessed ( thank god and hard work ). I do however not see how I can go further in my career do to over strict policies so I may not work on an airport.....( I have and did not hurt anyone, are the terrorists our own citizens? ) My conviction was over 10 years ago when I was 19 years old. I cannot return to shooting a gun in competetion. I represented the state of oregon at nationals two years in a row. I also cannot protect my family in my own home. If I respect the law I may not have a gun, If I break the law I may. The law only protects the success of the bad.
