Save The Landmark Cooling Towers!
The demolition of the Tinsley Cooling Towers in Sheffield was announced 0n the 28th September 2006 by its owners e.on UK. These towers are historic to Sheffield and symbols of a once great industry in the city. They now provide a landmark gateway to the industrial centre of Sheffield, and are one of the citys only remaining iconic landmarks. If these towers are to be demolished I know I speak for many people when I say that the city will lose a great part of its identity and the towers will be sadly missed. In the past there have been several plans involving ideas of restoring them as a landmark, which is still just as possible if they are saved. This petition allows the people of the city, and those who know it, to decide what happens to the cooling towers.
We who sign this petition may be either admirers of the structures and the city, Historians, architecture enthusiasts or those who feel for this cause. Either way we strongly believe that the Tinsley Cooling Towers should be saved from demolition.

- newcastle have the angel of the north. let sheffield have a symbol that won't cost anythng to build the're already there.

- They are an important landmark and part of the city's identity. The owners had no plans until interest was expressed in developing them. They are being allowed to put profit (building flats or whatever) before culture.
