I am appalled at the Science World Board of Governors' decision to rename the Science World facility to "TELUSphere". The name "TELUSphere" in no way reflects the mission or content appropriate to a childrens' learning facility. Assigning a corporate brand to a non-profit educational centre cheapens the value of the facility, deceives the city's children with embedded advertising, and tarnishes a highly visible Vancouver landmark.

I appreciate that TELUS has provided a significant amount of funding for a valuable learning centre; however, I feel that any name change must be reflective of the mission and mandate of the institution.

I declare that this name change is an unwelcome imposition upon the residents of Vancouver, and request that the decision be reconsidered and reversed.

    • I am disgusted that Science world would allow itself to be "bought out" by a corporate giant like telus. The last thing we need to do in this city is start renaming much-loved attraction with this kind of garbage. Sponsor them, but don't re-name them for heaven's sake!

    • Keep the name Science World, prominently thank Telus for its support, but don't commercialize science itself by creating a corporate counterpart of DisneyLand. Leave the emphasis on science where it belongs.

    • Telus's reputation for price-gouging, shoddy service and profiteering should be argument enough not to lend it's name to anything else.

    • How many people visiting Vancouver will see TELUSphere and say "Oooo, that looks interesting!" - at least Science World promoted what it was designed to be. This idea may end up costing the facility revenue in the form of visitors dollars.

    • I too, am absolutely appalled at the EVIL of it all. TELUSphere has nothing to do with science! Maybe the science of communication, but come on. This is absolutely abhorrent to me,

    • I think this is dumb...I've loved SCIENCE WORLD ever since i was a kid...the name was catchy, and so was everything inside. I don't wan't to go to some whack-job place called the ' telusphere '. So I say keep it the way it is ! ( Plus the name attracks people too. If they know its telus and they hate telus...no one will go )
