As owners of the paper mill located in Pine Falls, Manitoba, Canada, you have recently announced a decision to stop accepting recycled paper to make your newsprint. You have also made public your intent to strictly use virgin Manitoba trees to make your paper instead of de-inked recycled paper. This decision is astonishingly unsustainable and reflects a blatant disregard for the environment. It also affects local small businesses that are part of the recycling and de-inking process. We contend that your environmental degradation is not acceptable when more sustainable alternatives are available. As conscious consumers and on behalf of the environment, we are outraged and disappointed by Tembec Industries unsustainable newsprint decision. We demand that Tembec Industries continues to use recycled paper to make its newsprint and ceases all logging practices in Provincial Parks.

    • Tembec's decision is yet another example of its skewed short-term "vision" of prioritizing profits before ethics. Its claim of being a good environmental steward is a sham. Its shareholders should be demanding better environmental performance and community partnerships from this company. Its customers should go elsewhere for more environmentally-responsible products. And government should legislate a reasonable minimum of recycled material in its products. Without any consequences, Tembec will continue to devastate Manitoba's eastern forests, and even more abhorrently, with the blessing of the Forest Stewardship Council. It's disgusting.

    • Am I having a nightmare? Seems strange that any human would ACTUALLY think that virgin forests are an acceptable resource to use to make newsprint...

    • How can the decision makers of this company sleep well at night? Obviously the almighty dollar rules here and the government doesn't. Please continue to PROTECT our environmant and do not take a step backward. The future of this planet does not look well if companies like this are backward thinkers.
