PETITION TO STOP BSL IN TEXAS
We need to prevent any State Legislative to declare a specific breed or mixed breeds as a Vicious or Potentially Dangerous animal. Our State or any State should inherently recognize that dogs are personal property. Banning BSL to pass in Texas allows a Bill for Federal Legislation to enact which protects ownership of property rights and the legal use of rights in domestic animals. It ensures NO City or State shall prohibit ownership of Pits nor shall it restrict the ownership of any specific dog breeds. We must stop the senseless banning of these amazing, beautiful, intelligent dogs, and ban the ignorant, cold-hearted, abusive owners who ruin this breed and/or any breed. We must put an end to such unjust policies by fighting breed specific legislation and promoting a positive outlook and an accurate image of Pit Bulls. You only hear, read and see what the media/press portrays of these dogs. It should not solely be blamed on the breed itself but on the dog owners up bringing of this breed(s). Breed-specific laws will not protect our communities. An owner intent on using s/hes dogs for malicious purposes will simply switch to another type of breed and continue to jeopardize public safety. This list of regulated breeds or types could grow every year without ever addressing responsible dog ownership. In this case deeds, not breeds, should be addressed. Breed-specific laws are extremely unfair and unjust to responsible owners of these so-called Vicious animals. Breed-specific laws can cause an increase in costs for communities. Shelter costs for the community could rise as citizens abandon targeted breeds, and the adoptable dogs of the targeted breeds would be euthanized at a shelter. In some instances, breed-specific laws have been overturned on constitutional grounds; due to difficulties and it being impossible to determine of what a dog would become. Keep in mind the breed-specific laws may be deemed unconstitutionally vague. This law can potentially also be found to involve the taking of property without due process. Labeling of the Pit Bull breed as Vicious and dangerous dogs are implemented by narrow-minded and uneducated individuals of this breed(s). Pit Bulls are not all Vicious and were not genetically predisposed to being Vicious. If our State Legislative validates BSL- Breed Specific Law, they are clearly stating that Pits are no longer allowed to be kept as family members in our homes. Please Help Prevent this from occurring to responsible and loyal Pit Bull owners in the State of Texas.

- I'm having a problem with my apartment. They told me they were flexible with dog breeds although they had a few restrictions. I told them I wanted a husky, it wasn't on their list. They did have agressive breeds and wolf hybrids on there. Huskies are neither!

- I am a dog groomer, and a Pit Bull owner. I have groomed a number of dogs and when working in such a close way with so many breeds you learn that everything you hear about bully breeds is just propaganda exagerated or completely made up by the news. They are sensitive, loving, funny dogs and I am always excited when I know ill be grooming a Pit Bull. They are solid confadent happy dogs if raised correctly (and any dog raised incorrectly regardless of breed can be dangerous). People have been lead to believe that being attacked by a pit bull means death, but most 'pit attacks' talked about in the news have very little or no pit bull in them, if you go out of your way to look into these stories and see these dogs people would realize this, unfortunately most people cant recognize a pit bull if they are stairing them in the face. When I take my Pit for a walk I almost always get the same reaction, people see a goofy tounge and a tail wagging with such force its more dangerous then anything else on her. They come up and ask to pet her, they tell me how adorable and beautiful she is, then they ask me what kind of breed she is. She is a pure pit bull and 75% of people have no idea and are quite shocked when I tell them. Some just find her even more impessive and some suddenly take a step back like now that they know she is a Pit they could be in some danger they were not in a second ago. The stories that don't make the news are all the Lab and Husky attacks, the media knows that no one wants to hear about the friendly naighbourhood breed attacking someones dog or even a person, so it doesnt make the news. The only reason why people think that Pit Bull attacks are disporportionate to other breeds is becauce the news heavily spins it that way. If a Golden Retriever wants to kill a person, it can, and just as easily as a Pit. People do not understand this. Any dog attack is the fault of the owner and not the dog or breed.

- We have a pit bull ban in ontario. It had by far been the biggest failure. Legislators need to get some real education before they make these decisions. I deal with a gamut of purebred, mix breed, "vicious" breeds, sick dogs, mentally compromised dogs... the onus is on the owner. I have seen FAR more ill behaved "good dogs" than their media-viled counterparts. If you need legislation, then legislate the bad owners. Don't ban a breed and deprive a dog that humans bred to be that way a chance at a happy life just because we fucked up.
