The City of Toronto councillors have abstained from voting on their own salary increases. As a result, their salaries have been increased in the interim. Our property taxes continue to rise as our public services are cut and our local economy is in ruins. They will now be earning nearly $100,000 while the mayor receives nearly $167,000. How is it possible that they can choose on their own what they earn without accountability to the voters? Evidently, our councillors are not acting in our best interests.

Sign this petition if you would like their salary increases reversed and would like to see greater accountability for our elected officials. How about an online grading form?

    • It disgusts me that you can all keep living "high off the hog" for doing a job that seems to produce such paltry results for the common good.

    • They shouldn't be able to vote for their own salary increase. Where is the check and balance in the system?

    • We cannot continue to keep silent about counsellors who abuse their power. This is ridiculous that they can vote for their own raises. Compensation should be tied to performance, not just showing up!

    • The strategy of the City of Toronto when in need of finances, is to raise property taxes and increase Land Transfer Taxes (which is significantly contributing to the drop in housing sales in Toronto) rather that CUT COSTS. I work in the private sector, where there are discussions of salary reductions and shortened work weeks (and equivalent pay reductions), and you feel that you should get a pay increase.....HIGHER THAN THE RATE OF INFLATION ! I don't think that this is appropriate.

    • This is not justified in the face of continually rising property taxes and decline in services
