Considйrant que depuis 15 ans le train а vapeur Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield a prouvй sans lombre dun doute quil est un moteur de lйconomie et un atout majeur pour lOutaouais :
- Le train а vapeur attire 55 000 touristes qui dйpensent plus que 10 millions $ chaque annйe dans la rйgion;
- Le train attire des tour-opйrateurs, crйe de linvestissement йconomique, des emplois et des revenus de taxes et dimpфts;
- Le train attire touristes et visiteurs dans les commerces de Wakefield et dans les hфtels et les restaurants de Gatineau;
- Son emprise fournit un accиs aux berges de la riviиre Gatineau а Chelsea pour les randonneurs en йtй et les skieurs en hiver;
Considйrant que le train а vapeur est devenu un emblиme unique pour la rйgion et que le tourisme dans la rйgion a baissй denviron 40\% depuis la fermeture de la ligne;
Nous, sous-signй-e-s, citoyen-ne-s de la rйgion de lOutaouais demandons aux politiciens des gouvernements municipaux, provincial et fйdйral de travailler ensemble de toute urgence afin dassurer le retour sur les rails du train а vapeur aussi rapidement que possible, dans des conditions adйquates afin dassurer sa pйrennitй en tant quopйration touristique efficace, et ce, immйdiatement pour l ЙTЙ 2008.
ENGLISH
Whereas for the past 15 years, the Hull Chelsea Wakefield Steam Train has proven beyond doubt that it is a motor of the economy and a major benefit to the Outaouais:
- The Steam Train brings 55,000 tourists who spend more than $10,000,000 annually in our region
- It provides package tours, investment, employment and tax revenue.
- The train brings tourists and visitors to the businesses of Wakefield.
- It supports the hotels, restaurants and tourist businesses of Gatineau.
- At no cost, the Steam Train right-of-way provides access to the Chelsea river front for walking in the summer and skiing in the winter.
Wheras the Steam Train has become a charming and historical emblem of the region and tourist business is down as much as 40\% in the Outaouais without the train.
We, the undersigned citizens of the Outaouais urgently request the municipal, provincial and federal politicians of our region to work together to ensure that the Steam Train is put back on the tracks as quickly as possible with all the conditions necessary to ensure that it continues as a long term, effective, tourist operation, re-starting train service during this SUMMER of 2008.

- How can the government take away a piece of our past, present and future? Save this train, our train, a train that is part of our heritage. This train brings in thousands and thousands of dollars every year. I was also looking forward to spending my 50th birthday aboard the train in September. This would of been a memorable occasion for me. Please re-instate the train and bring our culture back to us.
