Proctor's Theater in Troy, NY is under threat of demolition. New York State, under its Restore New York initiative, can provide the needed funds to stabilize and begin renovation of the 1914 theater and save it from destruction. Stabilization work would provide jobs and employ local artisans, a win-win for everyone. Monies from Restore New York should not be provided to a demolition scheme being proposed by the city of Troy. The money is welcome, but only for the restoration of this historic building.

    • The last thing we need is fewer buildings in Troy. Did we learn nothing from the demolition rounds of the 1960's and 1970's?

    • I live and work in downtown Troy, and I strongly believe that revitalizing the Proctor's facade and surrounding area will bring good things to the city. Without that centerpiece the whole area languishes in disrepair.

    • The conservation of our resorces, both natural and those man-made, is essential for us to develop a sustainable society. Many of our architectural gems from years past, like Troy's Proctor's Theater, should be saved and preserved for the enjoyment and education of future generations. If those seeking this splendid theater's destruction had lived in Rome or Athens and had their way the world would have lost the Coliseum or the Acropolis. Please Governor Paterson, help us to save this magnificent building.
