Proctor's Theater in Troy, NY is under threat of demolition. New York State, under its Restore New York initiative, can provide the needed funds to stabilize and begin renovation of the 1914 theater and save it from destruction. Stabilization work would provide jobs and employ local artisans, a win-win for everyone. Monies from Restore New York should not be provided to a demolition scheme being proposed by the city of Troy. The money is welcome, but only for the restoration of this historic building.

    • Being on the National Register and receiving public money, a demolition should absolutely not be allowed without ample time and process for a thorough vetting of the developer and the proposal by the public. I am for creative re-use, but a "knock down first, ask questions later" approach, particularly for a building of such public importance, is not appropriate.

    • The Historic Architecture in Troy is what drew our 20 year old art organization to relocate here. We own two historic church buildings that HAD been slated for demolilition, now scheduled with a grand opening in June. Adaptive reuse is a viable option!

    • Demolishing a potential tourist site in a city that needs to promote itself makes little sense. We need to preserve our heritage and, along with it , bring commerce to needy cities.

    • DON'T TEAR DOWN OUR PRECIOUS MONUMENTS, you know its really dumb to tear it down since economically it would be easier to have it fixed allowing for people to get JOBS or maybe habitat for humanity can come in and help out or something, buildings don't need to be torn down, save on resources

    • even if its not restored to a theater it could be fixed and used for any number of things rather than demolishing it and leaving a whole in the city street, or worse putting up a modern low budget ugly misfit buidling
